
In a notice served to FremantleMedia Limited — the rights’ owners of ‘Idol’ shows, including ‘Pakistan Idol’ — the music label Tips has accused the franchise of airing content without prior authorisation terming it a severe violation of Tips’ copyrights and is liable for strict legal action.
The sound record label Tips has asked the FremantleMedia Limited and Geo TV — the licensed holders of ‘Pakistan Idol’ — to pay $20,000 per song per day for using unauthorised content and infringement of rights of Tips.
The notice was served by Digital Entertainment World, license holders of Tips in Pakistan. The company has demanded of the liable organisations to pay the amount in seven days and to attain licence with 48 hours for further airing its content.
In case of failure, Tips will be compelled to take appropriate and strict legal action in all concerned territories against all interested parties, asserts the notice — the copy of which is available with The Express Tribune.
