SAG Awards 2014: The Nominations are in

With four nominations each, film 12 Years A Slave and drama series Breaking Bad are in the lead in their respective fields. Coming in second are films Dallas Buyers Club, August: Osage County and The Butler with three nominations each, according to people.com. Television series Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones are also in the running for bagging the sought after ‘The Actor’ (SAG statuette). Hollywood heavyweights, such as actor Robert Redford, and the casts of Saving Mr Banks and The Wolf of Wall Street were among the snubs in the film field this year, reports Huffington Post.

The shelving of Redford may be ominous for the actor, according to Huffington Post’s Christopher Rosen. He says that “many prognosticators [were expecting Redford] to win Best Actor at the upcoming 86th annual Academy Awards.” In the last 19 years, every Best Actor Oscar winner has been able to secure a corresponding nomination from SAG in the lead actor category. Bearing this trend in mind, Redford’s absence from the SAG Awards 2014 nominees could possibly mean that his chances of winning an Oscar are bleak.
