Verification process : Recounting of votes starts at PS-59

Two weeks after the Hyderabad Election Tribunal’s order, the vote recounting started on Wednesday in the PS-59 constituency of Sindh Assembly in Badin.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s Muhammad Nawaz Chandio had won the seat in May 11 elections, defeating Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz’s candidate Mohammed Ismail Rahu with a margin of 1,349 votes.


The former bagged 38,315 votes and the latter 36,966 votes. As many as 80,648 votes were cast but only 77,041 were valid. Rahu filed a petition challenging the results in the tribunal on August 12. The recounting exercise, which began under the supervision of Badin’s district and sessions judge, Ghulam Rasool Samo, is likely to conclude on Thursday.

Both the candidates and four witnesses from each side are participating in the recount.
