JAMRUD:

At least 20 suspects were arrested and 60 hideouts were destroyed during raids conducted by the political administration with assistance from levies officials in Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Wednesday.

Assistant Political Agent Jehangir Azam Wazir said the crackdown was launched in Shahkas area early morning and the suspects taken into custody were put behind bars in Jamrud Jail. During the operation, Bara Road was closed and cordoned off for commuters.

Three months ago, a similar operation was launched against offenders and drug traffickers to clear the area. However, the drug mafias re-established their hideouts and were involved in smuggling contraband from Jamrud to different parts of the country, which prompted the ongoing crackdown, the official added.

He said raids will continue until all hideouts are cleared.
