Grief and rage: Doctor’s clinic, house attacked
Family said the doctor fled after administering ‘wrong’ injection that caused the death of a five-year-old.
FAISALABAD:
The family of a five-year-old boy who died at a clinic on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the clinic.
They pelted stones at the clinic and the doctor’s house on Sheikhupura Road with stones and broke its windows. The doctor’s car parked in front of his house was also damaged.
The protesting family was later joined by some neighbours. They shouted slogans against the doctor and demanded that he be arrested “for murder”.
Muneer Hussain, one of the protesters, said that the child, Abdur Rehman, a resident of Azhar Town was brought to the clinic in high fever.
He said Dr Ashfaq, gave him an injection and told the parents to take the child home. Hussain said within minutes of the injection, the child started shivering.
He said Dr Ashfaq was informed about his condition and asked to give him treatment, but he left the clinic without treating the child, who died soon afterwards.
The family then attacked the clinic with stones and broke its windows.
They also threw stones at the doctor’s car parked next to his house, adjacent to the clinic.
The protesters placed the child’s body on the road and demanded that the doctor be arrested. Millat Town Station House Officer Abid Zafar reached the scene and asked the protesters to stop. He assured them that the doctor will soon be arrested and action would be taken against him if he was found guilty.
The protesters dispersed after three hours on the street.
