Anti-Extremist Cell: ‘Political worker’ arrested for law enforcers’ killings
CID holds press conference to claim the arrests of suspects involved in extortion, kidnapping.

An alleged target killer was arrested during an encounter in Sohrab Goth. According to the police officials, the accused identified as Asif belongs to a political party and was involved in a number of cases of target killings.
The police officials privy to the matter told The Express Tribune that the accused was also being questioned about his possible involvement in attacking the police van carrying police commandos in Korangi’s Chakra Goth in August 2011, which claimed at least six police commandoes’ lives and wounded several others.
Meanwhile, at least five suspected Lyari gangsters have allegedly been arrested during an encounter on Hawke’s Bay by the Anti-Extremist Cell (AEC) of Crime Investigation Department (CID). The arrested suspects were identified as Saeed Kareem, Aurangzaib, Muhammad Amin, Saud Faisal and Saman Raza. The arrests were disclosed during the press conference held by AEC chief SP Chaudhry Aslam Khan at his office on Monday.
He informed the media that the arrests were made on a tip-off received by the intelligence agency. He said that a special team had constituted on the directives of Additional IG CID Iqbal Mehmood and DIG CID Dr Ameer Shaikh to arrest the culprits involved in terrorist and criminal activities in the city.
The officer said the suspects confessed they had killed a Rangers official, Hanif, and a woman when the paramilitary force raided their hideout in Cheel Chowk in April, this year. SP Khan said they were also involved in killing of Civil Lines SHO inspector Fawad Khan by attacking the police’s armoured personnel carrier during eight-day-long police operation in Lyari last year.

SP Khan further said that besides alleged killings of Rangers and police officials, the suspects had also been involved in cases of targeted killings, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, police encounters and other heinous crime cases.
Three hand grenades, three pistols and a motorcycle were also seized from their possession.
CID police also claimed arresting an alleged target killer during a raid conducted in Garden. According to CID’s sectarian cell in-charge Fayyaz Khan, the accused identified as Fahad alias Fahad K-2 belongs to a political party, who confessed that he killed at least seven workers of different political parties.
