Punjab University: Six students sent on judicial remand
The judge rejected the police request for physical custody and remanded the students in judicial custody.
LAHORE:
A judicial magistrate has sent six students of the Punjab University affiliated with Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) on judicial remand for 14 days. Hafiz Wajid, Abdul Kabeer, Farooq Khan, Adam Malik, Zubair Sahi and Umar Balli are accused of detaining and assaulting two professors, stealing their mobile phones, attempted murder, rioting and damaging public property. Muslim Town police produced the accused before the magistrate on Monday seeking to retain them in physical custody for further investigation. The police officials told the court that they had confiscated a 0.30-bore pistol and the stolen mobile phones from the students, and they had CCTV footage identifying the students. The counsel for the accused contended that the students were innocent and were being falsely accused.
