A man accused of bombing a house has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Gilgit, said his lawyer on Sunday.
The verdict was announced by anti-terrorism court judge Justice Raja Shahbaz Khan on Saturday. According to his lawyer Sherbaz Ali, Ashiq Hussain was sentenced to a life term.
Muhammad Jaffar, another accused, was exonerated over lack of evidence.
Ashiq Hussain and Muhammad Jaffar, both residents of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), were accused of attacking the house of contractor Afsar Jan, in 2009.
Hussain and Jaffar were arrested under anti-terrorism laws in the days that followed and were subsequently jailed.
“The court sentenced Hussain as it considered evidence presented by the prosecutors sufficient to prove his guilt,” said Ali.
