KGS wins swimming championship

KARACHI: The 19th Palmolive Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship came to a close at the Karachi Parsi Institute with defending champions Karachi Grammar School (KGS) emerging as the overall champions for the eighth year running.

The two-day event, organised by the Karachi Women’s Swimming Association (KWSA), witnessed a record 302 participants from 19 different institutions across the city as Mahnoor Maqsood from the Sea Lions school awarded the highest individual score award with 35 points. Maqsood also won gold in the under-16 category and broke a national record.

Apart from Maqsood’s effort, six other national records were also broken: Simra Karim of Sea Lions in the under-8 category, Mariam Trunkwala of KGS in the under-10, Areesha Saif of KGS in the under-12 , Hoor Rauf of KGS in the under-14, while  Areeba Shaikh of Sea Lions and Rida Mitha of KGS won gold and created new records as well.

While KGS topped the charts with 487.5 points, Sea Lions surfaced as the new emerging talent grabbing second place with 353 and Karachi Club ended third with 58 points.
