KARACHI:

A demonstration was held in front of Karachi Press Club against the rape and murder of a Hindu girl which took place in Shadi Palli in Umerkot district.

The protesters criticised the police, who they claimed are unwilling to file a report or take any action against the influential culprits. They also shouted slogans against the local administration and political parties for not helping to provide justice to the girl’s family.

The girl was raped alongside her sister by influential residents of Umarkot. She was allegedly killed by the rapists after she spoke out against them when authorities failed to take any action against the culprits.

Human rights activists spoke at the protest and condemned the actions of the culprits.

The activists said that the Dalit community, to which the girl belonged, are demeaned and treated unfairly due to their religious beliefs.
