Tragic death: Woman mistakenly shot succumbs to injuries

JAMRUD:
A woman who was shot at mistakenly on Wednesday succumbed to her injuries Thursday morning. Iran Bibi was shot by officials after an improvised explosive device (IED) blast injured four Frontier Corps (FC) officials and damaged their convoy in Jamrud tehsil, Khyber Agency.

On Wednesday Assistant Political Agent (APA) Jamrud, Jehangir Azam Wazir, said an FC vehicle was enroute to Sakhi Pul from Jamrud Bazaar. When the vehicle reached Ghundai, an IED planted by unidentified militants on the roadside went off, injuring four officials.



Other FC officials rushed to the spot and launched a search operation, during which a woman, identified as Iran Bibi, along with her two sons, was shot and injured on basis of suspicion. Iran was taken to Hayatabad Medical Complex in critical condition.


The APA said after the incident, Commandant Khyber Rifles Mansoor Janjua visited Iran’s house to meet her family. The political administration gave them Rs50,000 for her treatment.

Security forces launched a search operation on Thursday morning in Shahkas and arrested 320 suspects, who are now in Shahkas Fort for further investigations.

Wazir said Iran Bibi was shifted to an Intensive Care Unit and succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning. Her body was taken to her hometown, Ghundai, for a burial.
