KARACHI:
A breezy day for NBP saw them closing on a first-innings lead against UBL at stumps in their President’s Trophy fifth-round match at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad.

They were 100 for two in 24.4 overs at the close of play with Fawad Alam unbeaten on 34 while Umar Waheed had scored 28.

Earlier, UBL were bundled out for 129 after opting to bat first. The only notable contribution came from number 11 batsman Mohammad Irshad, who score 36 off 48 deliveries with two sixes and three boundaries studding his knock.

Medium pacers Ataullah and Ahmed Jamal claimed four and three wickets respectively while Hammad Azam chipped in with two scalps.

Talha takes six to rattle ZTBL

Speedster Mohammad Talha starred with a six-wicket haul as PQA bowled out ZTBL cheaply at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

Batting first, ZTBL were all out for 230 in 49.1 overs as Luqman Butt top-scored with 65 while Yasir Hameed contributed with a 38-run knock. Mohammad Sami grabbed two wickets.

In reply, PQA were 78 for two with Khalid Latif unbeaten on 41 while Usman Shinwari took both wickets.

In another match, hosts KRL had a cautious start on day one against PIA as they scored 191 for two in 67.2 overs with Saeed Anwar Jr remaining unbeaten on 77, while Usman Salahuddin held the other end at 38.

Attari’s five-for puts Wapda in front

Right-arm medium fast Azhar Attari claimed a five-wicket haul to help Wapda bowl out SBP for 172 in 57.3 overs at the National Ground.

Rizwan Haider top-scored with 39 while Mohammad Haseeb chipped in with four wickets. In reply, Wapda were 35 for no loss.

Meanwhile, SNGPL had a tough day against PTV as they could only manage 203 for five in 76.3 overs, with Taufeeq Umar (63) and Naeemuddin (47) being the notable scorers while left-arm spinner Yasim Murtaza claimed four scalps.

SNGPL coach Basit Ali said his team was unable to capitalise despite getting a good platform, resulting in a quick dismissal.

“After being 15 for one, we consolidated our position to go 120 for one but we failed to hold on,” Basit told The Express Tribune.

“Four wickets fell on just 14 runs which I think shouldn’t have happened as all the good work done by Taufeeq and Naeem went in vain. We had to rebuild our innings once again; thankfully, Mohammad Rizwan and Adnan Akmal put us in a decent position at the end which has given us a chance of posting a competitive total.”
