Rightful heirs: Summary sent to recruit relatives of 129 slain policemen
The initial report was returned by the government over incomplete information.
PESHAWAR:
A summary was sent to the provincial government for recruiting the children of 129 policemen killed on duty across the province by the Central Police Office (CPO).
According to the Shuhada package for martyred police officials, a son or a brother of the slain service member is directly recruited into the police force as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI). This is in addition to receiving Rs3.5 million in cash and the monthly salary of the deceased till the date of retirement. As part of the package, the police will cover the children’s educational expenses.
A summary sent earlier had been returned by the government, asking for more information and further details on procurement.
A police official told The Express Tribune the summary has been sent again with complete details on martyred policeman and their heirs.
Though the number of slain police officials is in the hundreds, the recruitment was being carried out in batches over time, added the official.
Police accountability
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa IGP reiterated the commitment to hold police officials accountable if they are suspected of corruption. IGP Nasir Khan Durrani said corruption will not be tolerated and action will be taken without nursing favouritism.
Addressing a police darbar in Mardan, Durrani maintained society cannot attain peace without public support. “I have complete authority to take all decisions and run the affairs of my department in a fair and transparent manner.”
He thanked the government for giving him a free hand to run the department independently. “People can help the police in further bolstering security measures in the province, and their confidence in the force is a key towards restoring peace.” Corrupt officials will be fired, he added.
At the event, 20 officials were given cash prizes for good performance. On the other hand, Nowshera DPO Waqar Ahmad was transferred for slacking on the job and was directed to report at police lines.
