Asif unstoppable so far in world championship
Defeats Ireland’s David Hogan 4-3 in closely contested tie.
KARACHI:
Defending champion Mohammad Asif continued to remain unstoppable as he won his fifth consecutive match in the ongoing IBSF World Championship, beating Ireland’s David Hogan 4-3 in Latvia on Tuesday.
Asif’s real test so far came against Hogan, who did not allow the champion to settle. Such was the intensity of the game that it was Hogan who led 1-0 before Asif turned the tables by going 2-1 up.
But Hogan was in no mood to throw in the towel and made it 2-2. Asif once agains restored a frame lead but his opponent drew parity to take the game into a decider. However, it was Asif who kept his nerve and won 4-3.
Meanwhile, Shahid Aftab defeated Poland’s Krzysztof Wróbel in straight sets while Imran Shehzad won 4-2 against England’s Jhon Whitty as Mohammad Sajjad lost his match 4-2 to Hong Kong’s Wai.
