Renovation halted

Capital Development Authority (CDA) does not have money to complete the renovation of the Bari Imam Complex.

ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) does not have money to complete the renovation of the Bari Imam Complex. The Rs641 million project was started in 2007 and was to be completed in two phases this year.

However Syed Tanveer Hussain, Project Director for Bari Imam Complex, told The Express Tribune on Thursday that work had been stalled due to shortage of funds.

CDA spokesperson Ramzan Sajid said the authority was just “monitoring” the project and the Auqaf Department, which falls under the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, was responsible for providing funds.

Sajid said CDA was not to be blamed for the delay because Auqaf Department did not contribute their share for the completion of the project.

Deputy Commissioner ICT Amir Ali Ahmad said their responsibility was to provide Rs2.6 million for the first phase of the project.

“We have already released Rs1.7 million to CDA and
will release the remaining funds once we are satisfied with the project’s progress,” he said.
