ISLAMABAD:

International lawyer Ahmer Bilal Soofi terms PTI’s move of lodging the FIR “an extraordinary development.” Criminal cases are usually proceeded against individuals, not state actors and if this case is moved forward, only the state can lead the proceedings because the provincial govt does not have the mandate to do so under the Constitution. The move is likely to disturb United States and Pakistan relations, he told The Express Tribune.

It will be difficult for the PTI to advance in the case without involving the federal government as foreign relations falls under Islamabad’s domain, he explained. “To proceed, Islamabad and Peshawar must be on the same page.”
