Ground breaking: PIMS to have new academic block within next year

Health minister appreciates work of College of Physicians and Surgeons.

ISLAMABAD:
The capital’s largest public hospital is getting a new academic block, courtesy of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).

Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarrar performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the new block at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Saturday.

The block’s construction will be completed within one year at an estimated cost of Rs100 million.



CPSP is an independent medical institution that arranges for postgraduate medical training at hospitals and offers certification after postgraduate training. It already has a regional centre located at Pims. The new academic block will be built adjacent to the regional centre’s building.


Tarrar appreciated CPSP’s contributions for extending specialist medical education facilities and praised the examination system of the college. She said the ministry will look forward to using expert opinion from CPSP as input for the formulation of health policies.

The ceremony was attended by Members National Assembly Malik Ibrar, from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and Azhar Jadoon, from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

CPSP President Zafarullah Chaudhry, CPSP Regional Director Rizwana Chaudhry, CPSP Director General (International Relations) Khalid Masood Gondal, Army Medical College Principal Major General Salman Ali and Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Muhammad Shaukat were also present at the ceremony.

After the ground-breaking, Tarrar was briefed about the examination and specialist training activities of CPSP during a guided tour of its regional centre at Pims.
