Sharing the sorrow: No Shia-Sunni hostilities, say leaders

KARACHI:

The terrorists’ plan to incite sectarian violence backfired when leaders of the Shia and Sunni communities held hands in solidarity as they mourned the victims of the twin blasts in Ancholi on Friday night.

This was said by religious leaders of both communities in a press conference on Saturday. Commercial activities remained suspended and black flags were hoisted on the main road between blocks 17 and 20 of Federal B Area to mourn the loss of at least six lives in the successive IED-improvised explosions for which the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have claimed responsibility.

“The incident is yet another proof for the fact that the notion of sectarianism is only a disguise. The terrorists have always hit Sunni and Shia Muslims alike,” said Allama Hassan Zafar Naqvi, the central spokesperson of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), who was joined by Sunni religious scholars, including Allama Qazi Ahmed Noorani and Maulana Shaukat Mughal.

“We are united and categorically reject the notion of any Sunni-Shia hostilities,” said Allama Noorani, adding that apart from the loss of lives, more than 30 Sunni and Shia Muslims sustained serious injuries. “The Muslims, irrespective of their sects and difference, should get united so that the terrorists may find themselves as an isolated and a cornered group.”
