Energy cooperation: Govt signs 3 MoUs with German company

LAHORE:

The government on Friday signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with German company Energiequelle Gmbh for cooperation in energy sector.

Under the agreements, the German company will set up a 100 megawatt solar power plant, a biogas plant and a biomass plant in Sahiwal

The work is expected to be completed in four months.

Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, German delegation head Helmut Fugemann, Coordinator to Chief Minister on Energy Shahid Riaz Gondal, Additional Chief Secretary Jehanzeb Khan and Agriculture Secretary Ijaz Munir were present at the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister welcomed the agreements for cooperation in energy sector.

He said the government was trying to resolve the energy crisis in the country as soon as possible.

He said agreements had been signed with several international companies to overcome load-shedding.

He said these power projects would substantially reduce energy shortage in the country.

He said special incentives and facilities were being offered for investment in energy sector. He said a number of foreign companies had shown interest in setting up projects at Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park in Bahawalpur.

He said the infrastructure was being developed to facilitate foreign investment.

He said the Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park would generate new job opportunities in the area. German delegation head Helmut Fugemann said his company wanted to promote cooperation with government. He expressed interest in setting up a solar power plant in Cholistan.

He said technical training was also a part of the agreement.
