Officials from the United States State and Justice Departments, in conjunction with the Women’s Police Support Programme, conducted the first-ever joint training for female prosecutors and police investigators in Pakistan.
The three-day Women Police Prosecutor Conference, which started on November 19, brought together female prosecutors and police investigators from Karachi and rural Sindh to receive specialised training from Pakistani and American experts in crime scene analysis, forensics, interview techniques and trial preparation. “Female police officers and prosecutors face unique challenges. I hope that the training will give them additional tools for success,” said US consul general in Karachi, Michael Dodman.
The training seminar presented the participants with a simulated crime and then asked them as a group to evaluate the crime scene, select the best investigative techniques and develop a case for effective presentation in court. The women also received instructions from experts on case evaluation, police-prosecutor cooperation, and sexual harassment.
