A man attacked with acid three months ago died at Bahawal Victoria Hospital on Wednesday.

Police said the deceased, Muhammad Zahid, 21, a resident of Gaelaywal in Lodhran district, was being treated for acid burns after he had been attacked by his paternal uncle, Abdul Majeed.

Gaelaywal Station House Officer Aamir Bhatti told The Express Tribune that Majeed wanted his 44-year-old daughter to marry Zahid.

He said when Zahid refused the proposal six months ago his relations with his uncle deteriorated.

The SHO said three months ago Majeed invited Zahid to his place and again asked him to marry his daughter.

He said when Zahid refused to do so he tied him up and threw acid on him.

Zahid was taken to Bahawal Victoria hospital where he was found to have lost his eyes in the attack and sustained 80 per cent burns.

Station House Officer Aamir Bhatti said Majeed was still at large. He said the police were looking for him.
