Land scam: 530 acres given to DHA against rules, says Wasan
PPP leader says massive reshuffling to take place in Sindh cabinet soon.
KARACHI:
Sindh jails minister Manzoor Wasan, who also has charge of the anti-corruption department disclosed on Wednesday that corruption worth billions of rupees had been unearthed in different departments of the provincial government.
“The anti-corruption department is investigating high-profile cases. Many frauds relating to land scam have been uncovered,” he said, at a press conference after attending Pakistan Peoples Party’s meeting in Dubai that was presided over by Asif Ali Zardari. According to Wasan, 530 acres have been allotted to the Creek Club in Defence Housing Authority in violation of the rules. “Let us finish the inquiry, then I will cancel the allotment and take action against those involved.”
He also told the media that a massive reshuffle was about to take place in the Sindh cabinet very soon. “More than 50 per cent of the provincial departments’ portfolios will be changed. The new faces in the ruling party will be given a chance to deliver. They have now ordered the waistcoats that ministers wear.” Wasan was quick to clarify that it was neither a dream nor a prediction, but was discussed in the meeting. Blaming the PPP’s district leadership for weakening the party, he said, “It has been decided that no leader will enjoy dual positions in the party and the government.” Wasan said that the local government elections were discussed in length at the Dubai meeting and party members were in favour of the elections being held in either February or March. Responding to a question on new districts in Karachi, Wasan said, “I think we have enough [districts].”
