2 dead, 9 injured from consecutive blasts in Quetta

Two blasts occurred on the Sarkai road and one on Moti Ram road.

Three back-to-back explosions within the gap of few minutes in Quetta killed two people including a rickshaw driver and injured nine others, including a woman and a police constable.

The first blast, which took place in the Industrial Area a half-kilometer from a police station killed a rickshaw driver Abdullah and injured four others including two children and a woman.

The injured were taken to Provincial Sandeman Hospital Quetta for treatment.

“The rickshaw driver received multiple splinter wounds and died on the spot,” the MLO said. Other injured people have been identified as brothers Zohaib and Shoaib (aged seven and nine years), and Mehmood and Bibi Almas.

The second blast occurred when an Improvised Explosive Device was planted in front of the main gate of Industrial Police Station, which went off with a huge explosion, injuring the constable Jamilur Rehman. A police mobile was also damaged in the attack.


A third blast occurred at the intersection of Moti Ram and Patel Road, the downtown of Quetta, injuring four people including a child.

Rescue workers and heavy contingent of police reached the spot and shifted the injured to Sandeman Hospital. One of the injured, Shajahan succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

Police said explosive materials were planted by the road, injuring passers-by and damaging they electricity pylon, plunging the area into darkness.

“A rickshaw driver and a child were killed in the explosions while nine people sustained injuries. All the three were IEDs,” Deputy Inspector General (DIG) investigations Mohammed Jaffar told The Express Tribune.

No group has claimed the responsibility till the filing of this report.
