KARACHI: One of the two policemen who were gunned down in an act of target killing in Nazimabad was laid to rest while the body of the other cop was sent to his hometown for burial on Tuesday.

Two policemen of the Nazimabad police station, 35-year-old Head Constable Mohammad Siddiq and 40-year-old Constable Rahat Ali, were shot dead while sub-inspector Mir Mohammad was wounded when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire at them on Monday evening.

The funeral prayers of Rahat Ali were offered at the Garden Police Headquarters which was attended by large number of people, including police high-ups, such as Karachi Additional IG Shahid Hayat. Siddiq’s body was sent to his hometown Ghotki for burial.

“We suspect that militants were involved in this attack,” said SHO Rao Ehsan while talking to The Express Tribune. “We are trying to make the sketches of the culprits with the help of the injured inspector and other witnesses.”

The officer said that the culprits, who shot the victims multiple times, were trained while initial investigation suggests that they used two weapons, including a 9mm pistol. The injured police inspector was still in the hospital but doctors said that his condition was out of danger. He told the police that he was in the police van while the deceased cops were on the road for snap checking. The culprits opened fire at the officers when they signaled them to stop the motorcycle, he added. Meanwhile, the police on behalf of the state has registered a case against unidentified persons.
