Curator Noorjehan Bilgrami gives details of events, venues to ensure govt support.
KARACHI:
The commissioner promised on Tuesday that the Pursukoon Karachi Festival, scheduled for the upcoming weekend, will be provided adequate security.
A delegation of the organisers of the three-day festival paid a visit to commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui’s office to give a briefing on the event and request for security. The event will take place between Friday, November 22, and Sunday, November 24, at Karachi Arts Council, National Academy of Performing Arts and the Cantonment Railway Station simultaneously.
Pursukoon Karachi curator Noorjehan Bilgrami explained that their activities will take place inside the three premises but they will need no-objection certificates from the government. The Sindh chief minister will be inaugurating the festival on Friday, while the governor and the federal railways minister have also been invited to attend the festival.
According to Bilgrami, the festival will comprise 35 different projects of art, culture, theatre, folk dance, music and events for children. “The first question we get from everyone interested in attending the festival is about security,” Bilgrami told the commissioner.
“We will provide all support and facilities that you need from the government to make Karachi a peaceful city,” Siddiqui replied, adding that everyone should try to become a part of Pursukoon Karachi.
Pakistan Railways divisional superintendent for Karachi Maqsoodun Nabi told Bilgrami that the railway police will also be available for security of the events taking place at Cantt Station. The meeting was also attended by Traffic Police South deputy superintendent Hashmat Ghauri, architect Shahab Ghani, Pursukoon Karachi coordinator Naveed Farooqi and Civil Lines assistant commissioner Maqsood Ghumar.
