FAISALABAD:

“The provincial government will finance a five megawatt power generation plant at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF),” UAF Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan said on Tuesday.

Presiding over a meeting with the deans’ committee, Khan said the plant would operate using the solid waste gasification mechanism.

In addition, he said, 50 overseas PhD scholarships would be provided under the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) this year.

The VC said Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif would visit the university in December to congratulate UAF for making it to the list of top 100 universities in agricultural sciences according to this year’s National Taiwan University rankings.

Khan asked the registrar to formulate the organising committees to hold the forthcoming convocation in December. He said the convocation would be presided over by the Punjab governor. The VC said the newly constructed lecture theatre would help the teachers.

Khan asked the Engineering and Construction Department to design two more lecture theatres. He also said the university administration had signed an agreement with the Higher Education Commission to increase its internet bandwidth to 311 MBPS.

Later, the deans’ committee also visited the newly constructed lecture theatre.
