Consumer court: Shop sued over defective mobile

Petitioner asked the court to direct the mobile phone shop to pay him Rs500,000 as damages.

LAHORE:

A consumer court on Tuesday issued a notice to the proprietor of a mobile phone shop in a suit seeking Rs500,000 as damages.

Muhammad Usman said he had purchased a Nokia phone for Rs12,000 from Muhammad Shehzad of Shan Mobile at Rajgarh. He said Shehzad had pledged to take full responsibility if the phone malfunctioned.

Usman said the phone began malfunctioning a few days later. He took it back to Shehzad, who told him to collect the phone after two days. However, the phone, had not been repaired, he said.

Usman said that Shehzad claimed the phone was fine, but the problem persisted. Usman said Shehzad refused to attempt to repair it again.

Usman asked the court to direct the mobile phone shop to pay him Rs500,000 as damages.

Shehzad told The Express Tribune that he had not sold Usman a defective phone. He said the phone worked fine. “Usman only thought the phone’s display froze when he used it,” he said.
