Trial for treason: Special bench for Musharraf case finalised

ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday finalised the names of three judges for the 'special court' which the government requested for a trial against former president and Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, Express News reported.
Sindh High Court's Justice Faisal Arab will head the bench.
Justice Tahira Safdar of the Balochistan High Court and Justice Yawar Ali of the Lahore High Court are the other two judges on the bench.
Express News correspondent Aamir Ilyas Rana reported that Justice Arab was appointed as head on account of being the most senior judge among between the three.
Prime Minister approves judges
According to a release from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's office, he approved the names of the three judges to head the 'special court'.
The federal government had requested the Supreme Court on Monday that a 'special court' try Musharraf for treason.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had said:
“Following the judgment of the Supreme Court and a report submitted by an inquiry committee, it has been decided to start proceedings against Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution.”
“It is happening for the first time in the history of Pakistan. This case is very sensitive and important and the decision has been taken in the national interest,” he added.
