Protesting abduction: Doctors’ strike enters third day
Dr Munaf Tareen was kidnapped on September 17 and police have so far failed to find any clue to his whereabouts.
QUETTA:
Doctors boycotted the OPDs at all state-run hospitals in Balochistan, for the third consecutive day, to protest against the non-recovery of the abducted cardiologist, Dr Munaf Tareen. Tareen was kidnapped on September 17 and police have so far failed to find any clue to his whereabouts. Doctors were not present at BMC, Sandeman Hospital, Fatima Jinnah Chest Hospital, Helper Eye Hospital, Shaikh Zayed Hospital and Benazir Shaheed Hospital in Quetta. The token hunger strike initiated by Pakistan Medical Association and allied doctors’ organisations has now entered its 44th day, in vain. “The strike will continue till our demands are met,” said Sultan Tareen, former PMA President. “Doctors have been targeted for the past five years and not a single culprit involved in kidnappings and targeted killings has been arrested,” he added. While doctors have boycotted the OPDs at all other 31 district headquarters hospitals deepening the health crisis, they continue to attend patients at their private hospitals.
