Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has directed the traffic police department to develop a special traffic management plan after the goods’ transporters called off their 11-day strike.
The United Goods Transporters’ Alliance (UGTA) announced the end of the strike on Sunday. The announcement caused a sudden influx of trawlers that were parked at the Karachi Port Trust onto the city roads, especially those leading to the Mauripur truck stand.
In a meeting with traffic DIG Muhammad Arif Hanif on Monday, Siddiqui said that increased flow of trailers and containers has resulted in major traffic jams, causing inconvenience to the public. “It is, therefore, extremely important to immediately devise a short term plan to ease the pressure on the roads,” he said.
