KARACHI:

The Constitutional Bench of the Sindh High Court has reserved its verdict on a petition involving an admission dispute at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice KK Agha, on Friday took up the petition regarding the admission of a student, whose seat was reportedly assigned to another candidate after her provisional enrollment.

While appearing before the bench, the petitioner's lawyer, Barrister Talha Abbasi, argued that the student had been informed after her admission that her seat had been allocated to another candidate.

The college principal, Dr Anjum Rehman, contended that the petitioner had been granted provisional admission due to complications with the domicile of a student named Aizaz. Dr Rehman clarified that all admissions were initially provisional until the finalisation of the process.

The bench was informed that the seat originally assigned to the student in question - who had been admitted to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme at Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) - was still vacant. Moreover, the head of the Student Registration Department confirmed that three seats were available at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari, according to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council records.
