District Coordination Officer (DCO) Noorul Amin Mengal on Monday said development projects worth Rs2 billion would be launched under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Package.  Addressing a meeting, the DCO said the projects were aimed at economic development.


He said in the first phase, Rs1 billion would be released for projects proposed by MNAs and MPAs.

He said trunk roads, inter-tehsil roads, transport stands would be reconstructed and renovated under the two-year plan. He said vegetable markets would be moved outside the city.


He said parks of the city would be rehabilitated and parking plazas and walk ways constructed.

The DCO asked public representatives to suggest public welfare projects in their areas.

The DCO said proposals for construction of Sir Fazal Hussain Road, Airport Road, Chak Jhumra-Nishatabad-Gattwala Road, Jail Road, Jhang Road, Industrial Estate Road, rehabilitation of Chowk Clock Tower, construction of parking plazas, establishment of Green Park at Canal Road and completion of truck stand at Sargodha Road had been accepted.

He said in the next phase more than 80 projects would be approved.

The DCO directed engineers of the Buildings Departments to complete their survey so work could be initiated.
