Brazen assault: Two police officials killed, check post torched by militants
A five-kg bomb found at the check post was also defused after the attack.

Two police officials were gunned down and a police check post torched by unidentified militants in Drang, within the limits of Parmoli police station, Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1pm, shared Drang checkpoint in charge Aurangzeb Khan. He and other officials were out patrolling while Constable Mubasir Nadir, from Kalu Khan, and Constable Sajid Khan, from Swabi city, had been left behind to man the check post.
According to Aurangzeb, the patrolling officers heard sounds of gunfire coming from the side of the Drang post and rushed back, only to find it had been attacked.
“When we reached, both constables had been killed and the check post was on fire.”
After the incident, Aurangzeb informed Parmoli police SHO Haji Muhammad Khan who arrived with police contingents, surrounded the area and launched a search operation.
Haji Muhammad Khan reached the site at roughly 2:15pm. “At the time, fire was being extinguished by locals and bystanders.”
“The exact number of militants who attacked the check post could not be ascertained and no one has been arrested so far in the search operation, “added the SHO.
Militants had also planted a bomb inside the Drang post which was spotted by one of the policemen. Members of the bomb disposal squad were then called in; they defused the devise which contained at least five kilogrammes of explosives.
Haji added three motorbikes, two rooms, beds and documents were damaged in the fire.
Last rites
The bodies of both constables were taken to District Headquarters Hospital and shifted to Police Line Swabi after the autopsy. There, DPO Sajid Khan along with other police and district government officials offered funeral prayers for both the fallen officers. Officials shifted Nadir’s remains to his hometown Kalu Khan and Sajid’s to his house in the city. Both constables were laid to rest with official honours.
A case was filed against unidentified militants.
House attacked
A woman was killed and three others injured when unidentified militants lobbed a hand grenade inside a house in Bamkhel, Swabi on Sunday.
Fazal Sani, the owner of the house, was also injured in the explosion and filed a case with the City police station. Sani reported he and his family members were sitting at home in Kachkol Bandha, on the outskirts of Bamkhel, when a hand grenade was lobbed over the boundary wall, followed by a loud explosion. The militants responsible managed to escape.
Initially four of his family members were wounded and locals rushed to his house to start rescue work. The injured were shifted to Swabi Headquarters Hospital where one of the injured women succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased was identified as Serat Bibi; the injured include Bakhtia Bibi, Umaira,Saeeda and Fazal Sani.
Sani claimed the family had no disputes. A report was filed against unidentified militants.
