Pakistan determined to fight economic, security challenges: PM in Colombo

COLOMBO:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated on Friday the commitment of his government to a long-term strategy of sustained and inclusive growth by providing equal opportunities to all Pakistanis, reported Radio Pakistan.

He was addressing the first Executive Session of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Colombo on Friday.

Speaking on the summit theme “Growth and Equity: Inclusive Development,” the Prime Minister noted that equitable development was indeed one of the most significant contemporary challenges confronting the world at large‚ and the Commonwealth in particular.


Pakistan is faced with the challenges of a weak economy‚ poverty‚ acute energy shortages‚ successive natural calamities and rising militancy, he said.

Nawaz assured the leaders present at the summit that his government was determined to address these challenges urgently and simultaneously. He said the aspirations and resolve of the Pakistani nation had strengthened his determination to steer Pakistan towards a new and bright future.

Earlier‚ the PM attended the opening ceremony of the Summit along with other heads of state.

Nawaz also attended the lunch hosted by Prince Charles for a select group of Commonwealth Heads, and will also be attending a dinner hosted by the Prince for all Heads of the delegations.
