The funeral of slain police official Khurram Shehzad was held at Police Lines on Wednesday.

Shehzad was killed by a gunman near Pindora Chuungi in the limits of the New Town Police Station.

The provincial Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Khalid Masood Chaudhry, Regional Police Officer Zaheem Iqbal Sheikh, City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana and other officials attended the ceremony.

After the funeral, the constable’s body was sent to his native town of Dhoke Gangal where he was laid to rest with official protocol. Shehzad, who was in the Muhafiz Squad, was on duty on Saidpur Road along with his colleague when they tried to stop a suspect on a motorcycle.

Instead of stopping, he started firing on the policemen. Shehzad died of bullet wounds as a result. Shehzad had joined the Rawalpindi police as a constable in 2007.
