KARACHI:

In an effort to recognise the performance of this year’s high achievers in the Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB), the Fancy Foundation announced scholarships for around 20 students sponsoring their Higher Secondary School Certificate.

The foundation has a long history of providing scholarships to the needy and deserving students since 1960. It was set up as a benevolent fund by the family of noted business tycoon and philanthropist, late Amir Ali Fancy. The scholarships will cover tuition fee and book allowances for 10 students enrolled each in grade 11 and grade 12.

As the AKU-EB celebrates a decade of academic excellence, its president, Firoz Rasul, said that the examination board has already served around 50,000 students since its inception. To prepare a generation of thinkers who can address the challenges faced in Pakistan, Rasul finds the solution in providing the right conditions and continuous investment in teachers. Commending this year’s high achievers, the AKU-EB director Dr Thomas Christie said the board started with a mission to prepare the students for higher education through quality assessment of their understanding and thinking abilities rather than how accurately they can reproduce the textbook materials.”For this reason, our higher school graduates have earned admissions to around 180 universities in Pakistan and almost 50 universities abroad,” the director said, smiling.

The overall second position holder in matriculation exam, Mehdia of alMurtaza School shared her views with The Express Tribune and said, “My experience with AKU-EB has been exceptionally wonderful as it inculcated within me the habit of exploring ideas.
