PESHAWAR:
Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) will set up camp offices to facilitate consumers in payment of outstanding bills.

Pesco chief executive Tariq Sadozai announced the move on Monday, saying the company is facing huge losses due to illegal power connections and non-payment of bills.

During a meeting with a delegation of elders and political figures including Asghar Khan Khalil and Atifur Rehman at Wapda House, Peshawar, participants complained about excessive load-shedding in Tehkal and adjacent areas of Warsak-II subdivision along with the northern suburban areas of Peshawar. In his response, Sadozai said, “If defaulters are ready to pay their outstanding bills and remove illegal connections, we will extend our cooperation to them and reduce load-shedding as soon as possible.”

Pesco spokesperson Shaukat Afzal said the delegation assured Sadozai of their cooperation, but stressed the problem of load-shedding needs to be addressed promptly.

Following a complaint about excessive load-shedding to a newly bifurcated feeder, Sadozai constituted a committee directing them to prepare a plan for the new power feeder to carry out load-shedding proportional to recovery of dues.

The Pesco chief also directed Peshawar Circle Superintendent Engineer Dr Amjad Khan to establish camp offices in these villages to facilitate consumers who want to deposit their electricity dues, as well as to remove direct hooks and install electricity meters.

Sadozai directed concerned officials to help install meters at the earliest to facilitate consumers in suburban localities of the provincial capital. He also told the delegation about ongoing Pesco projects in the province, claiming new transformers are being installed in several grid stations to overcome the problem of low voltage.

Asghar Khan Khalil later said they would soon provide Rs20 million to Pesco, following which Sadozai said if the amount is recovered they will be able to repair all faulty transformers and power lines.
