The Islamabad Capital Administration (ICT) and Capital Development Authority (CDA) carried out a massive anti-encroachment drive at Sabzi Mandi and its adjoining areas on Sunday.
During the operation, all the encroachments made by the stallholders on roads, footpaths, sheds auction area in Sabzi Mandi were removed.
The stallholders were warned of strict action if they violated the law in future.
The ICT and CDA teams also conducted price checking and imposed fines on the profiteers for not displaying the rate list of fruits and vegetables.
Shopkeepers were directed to ensure display of rate list of food items prominently at the shops.
The team also took samples of ginger from shops and sent them to laboratory for analysis.
The sanitation staff also cleared roads of waste.
Assistant Commissioner (Saddar) Waqas Rashid informed this agency that no extortionist or such practice was reported or observed in market.
He said that police duty at the Mandi was also ensured to tackle the security matters.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner has constituted an interim committee for Sabzi Mandi, to make all out efforts and ensure better management of co-ordination with the CDA and Agriculture Department, to watch the affairs of Sabzi Mandi.
The interim committee will work till the rules for market committee are notified soon, thereafter, Agriculture Department, Islamabad, will take over the management of Sabzi Mandi, Islamabad.
