KARACHI: Two suspected gangsters were killed during the ongoing gang war between two rival groups - Baba Ladla and Uzair Baloch - while one suspect was killed in an encounter with law enforcers in Lyari on Sunday.

The volatile neighbourhood echoed with sounds of gunfire and explosions as routine and commercial activities were suspended. The deceased persons have yet to be identified.

The first gangster was killed in a firing incident near Tanga Stand in Bihar Colony while the second gangster was killed in Koila Godown. The third suspect was killed during an encounter in Chakiwara.

Clash

During the clash, the gangsters had opened indiscriminate fire and were hurling hand grenades, rockets and awans at each other. This forced the law enforcers to take action against them.

“We have no idea if the deceased gangsters belong to Baba Ladla group or Uzair Baloch group,” said DSP Shakeel Ahmed.

Intense firing continued from both sides and it spurred the law enforcers into action, he added.

Man found

An abducted person was recovered by Rangers during a raid at the hideout of Lyari’s notorious gangster Faisal Pathan. There were unconfirmed reports about the death of Pathan in the encounter, but police officials clarified that Pathan managed to escape under the cover of fire.

Bodies identified

The bodies of the four alleged gangsters found separately in Lyari late Saturday night have been identified as Nisar alias Captain Nisari, his brother Riaz Niazi, and two of their aides, Abdullah alias Pathan and Waseem. According to police officials, the deceased gangsters were associated with the Uzair Baloch group. Nisar was the operational commander for Baloch in Baldia Town, they added.

The criminals had been summoned by Baloch in Lyari to fight against his rival, but Ladla and his accomplices kidnapped them and after killing them dumped their bodies. Nisar was wanted by the police in more than 50 cases of crime, including killing and attacking law enforcers.
