The league is being played at the centralised venues of Karachi and Lahore and each team is supposed to play a total of 28 matches.
According to match-commissioner Ali Nawaz Baloch, the season so far had showed that all teams are fighting with a different spirit altogether.
Earlier, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) had announced that six teams would be relegated this season, and only 10 of the strongest domestic sides would participate from next year onwards.
Baloch stated that teams like Lyallpur FC, HBL, new-comers ZTBL, and the Noushki-based club Baloch FC will be in trouble, whereas the top contenders will be KRL, KESC, and Muslim FC — the latter’s inclusion being a surprise to many fans.
“It’s a different league this year, the competition is tougher, each team is playing with a more aggressive mindset,” Baloch told The Express Tribune.
“If I just go with the performance, KESC have performed well and their lead is commendable. Muslim FC is also a serious threat to the established departmental sides, and KRL will join them soon, because they have a lot of matches remaining in their hands.”
Meanwhile, the league has also seen some noticeable individual performances. KPT player Mohammad bin Yousuf has scored 11 goals, while KESC’s Muhammad Rasool is right behind with 10 goals. At the end of the season, the top scorer will grab a prize purse of Rs100,000.
