BEIJING: State Media for China’s ruling Communist Party stated that a key meeting was held focusing on economic reforms after carefully watching a leadership in transition. The official Xinhua news agency said that the gathering would discuss a draft decision by the party Central Committee on “major issues concerning comprehensively deepening reforms”. This meeting is said to be a four-day session comprising of 376 member committee. Last November, China introduced a once-a-decade leadership makeover plan as Xi Jinping took over as party general secretary before becoming the state president in March. Analysts have expressed skepticism regarding the policies that will emerge from this meeting, and mostly expect broad plans rather than firm details. China’s leadership realises that the country’s economic model largely based on state-financed investment needs to evolve into one where consumers have more avenues of growth.
