ISLAMABAD:
Although winter has arrived in the twin cities, dengue cases are still being reported at hospitals.
In a latest development, the District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ), Rawalpindi on Saturday received 10 new cases, while at least 12 patients have been tested for the fever at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) since November 1. Out of the 12, 10 are residents of twin cities.
According to District Health Officer Dr Khalid Randhawa the number of dengue cases is decreasing with each passing day and after a week the situation could well be under control.
The twin cities’ administration will also conduct a joint operation against illegal sewerage pipelines and will run a mass awareness campaign to educate people. According to a press release, senior officials of the twin cities’ administrations have decided that a public awareness campaign against dengue fever will be intensified in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, particularly in the areas adjacent to IJP Road.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has, for the purpose, divided the IJP Road and its adjacent areas into five parts and its Sanitation directorate has constituted and deputed teams in all five areas while each team is working in double shifts to ensure quick results.
Banners inscribed with messages to raise dengue awareness literature will be displayed in parks and other public places. CDA chairman has also directed officials to take necessary measures to prevent flower pots, tyres, plastic bags, fountains, stagnant water and nullahs from breeding dengue mosquitoes.
