‘Robbery’: Prayer leader found dead in Rawalpindi
The IO said that the crime did not seem to be a case of sectarian violence and was more likely a robbery gone wrong.
RAWALPINDI:
A prayer leader was found dead in a seminary in Tench Bhatta in the jurisdiction of the RA Bazaar police.
Investigation Officer (IO) Assistant Sub-inspector Abid Hussain said that three robbers had reportedly barged into prayer leader Anwar Baig’s room in Masjid Said at Gulshan-e-Zaheer in Tench Bhatta before fleeing with Rs15,000. The IO also said that the crime did not seem to be a case of sectarian violence and was more likely a robbery gone wrong.
The IO said that the deceased may have died of a shock-induced heart attack, but added that the cause of death could only be confirmed once the post-mortem report was completed.
Hussain said that there were no torture marks on Baig’s body and added that Muhammad Sadiq, who had been staying with the deceased, has also been taken into custody for further probe.
The police quoted Sadiq as saying that the robbers kept threatening to shoot Baig if he did not disclose where had kept the money.
