Sri Lanka and New Zealand will lock horns in the opening match of the three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) series in Hambantota today.
The new-look Black Caps team led by Kyle Mills hopes to exploit the gusty conditions in the city where the hosts have struggled in the ODI format.
Sri Lanka have lost three out of five games against major opposition at the venue located in the south of the pearl island.
Mills, 34, thinks that his team has the ability to conjure an upset win despite the setback against Bangladesh where the tourists lost 0-3.
“At the age of 34, I’d pretty much closed the door on anticipating the captaincy,” said Mills according to ESPNcricinfo. “But it’s been a challenge I’ve enjoyed so far, and it will be a greater challenge to lead a group in which I have absolute belief in.”
On the other hand, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews wants his team to play positive cricket and not worry too much about the rest.
