The Muslim-Christian Fellowship International, USA, will confer the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Award 2013 on Saturday on Advocate Dr Abdul Basit for his services for human rights, peace, tolerance and social justice.
The ceremony will be held at the Lahore Press Club. Former Supreme Court Bar Association president Asma Jehangir will chair the ceremony. Muslim-Christian Fellowship International Chairman Zia Mahmood will also be present.
Dr Basit is an advocate of the Supreme Court and an author of several books including The Humanist World Order, Philosophical Foundations of New Humanism, Foundational Essays in Humanist Jurisprudence, Conflicts between States Over Territory, Armed Struggle for Independent Kashmir and Breaking of Pakistan.
He has also served as a research associate for Pakistan’s delegation to UN Sixth Committee (1956-66), Overseas Research Scholar, British Institute of International and Comparatives Law, London (1968-69), Associate Professor of Law, Punjab University Law College, Lahore (1974-2012). He established the Idara Tehkik Qanoon (1985) and has been published in Legal Opinion, a quarterly law journal.
Dr Basit is the managing partner of Basit Musheer, a law firm established in 1974. He completed his Doctorate in Law from Yale University, USA in 1968. He has also studied at the Southern Methodist University, Texas (Oil and Gas Law) and McGill University, Montreal, Canada (Air Laws), and Punjab University Law College (1958-60).

God protect Dr. Basit from the same fate at the hands of his self-righteous country,making him yet another Malala.
