Unfair standards: Students challenge NED University’s admissions policy

Two students who were denied admissions into NED University despite clearing the admission test have filed a petition against university officials.
The students stated that, according to the policy of the university, 40 per cent of the seats are given to the children of the varsity’s employees, while only 60 per cent are for the general public. The test results showed that the students who have secured 84 per cent in their Intermediate exams have been rejected while others with 55 per cent have been given admissions.
“This policy is contrary to the provisions of the article 25 of the Constitution,” argued their lawyer, Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed. He pleaded the court declare NED’s admission policy illegal and contrary to the constitutional provisions.
The Sindh High Court issued notices to the education and literacy department’s provincial secretary and NED University vice-chancellor. Justice Faisal Arab, who headed the bench, called for the respondents to reply by November 13.
