Water-starved industries: KWSB pledges water supply to tanneries
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) will provide 0.5 million gallons of water every day.
KARACHI:
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) will provide 0.5 million gallons of water every day from a designated hydrant to the industries in Tannery Zone, Korangi, to provide relief to the water-starved leather industry. This was decided in a meeting, which comprised the board’s managing director, Qutubuddin Shaikh, Pakistan Tanners Association chairperson Fawad Jawed and other officers. Jawed informed the meeting that the KWSB had laid a 32-inch pipeline connected with its water trunk to Sector 7-A for supply of 3mgd of water but water was yet to be released into the pipeline. He lamented that, despite being the high season for the tannery industry in which a large number of hides collected during Eidul Azha were lying in the factories, there was no water available to process them.
