Malpractice: Court summons LRH MS, six doctors in negligence case
Ex-WAPDA employee sentenced to 14 years for practising with fake medical degree.

Additional Sessions Judge Jamaluddin Khan on Wednesday summoned the medical superintendent (MS) and six doctors of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) in a medical negligence case which allegedly led to a patient’s death.
Khan Raziq police station SHO has also been summoned and is expected to explain why he refused to register an FIR against the accused doctors.
Advocates Adnan Haider and Ahmad Inayat informed the court their client Munir Hussain, a resident of Kohati Gate, took his father Wazir Khan to LRH a month ago so he could be treated for a chest infection. However, instead of treating the infection, Wazir was put on dialysis after which his blood pressure fell to 40 mmHg and he died.
Hussain went to the nearby Khan Raziq police station to lodge an FIR against LRH MS Iqbal Afridi, Deputy MS Dr Fayaz, Professor Akhtar Ali, Professor Ilyas Saeedi, Dr Arshad Khattak, Dr Rahim Shah and Dr Fahad, added the lawyers. However, SHO Muhammad Noor allegedly refused to register the case.
The seven accused doctors and SHO Noor are expected at the next case hearing scheduled for November 13.
Fake doctor sentenced
In a separate case, Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Ilyas sentenced a former Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) assistant director legal to 14 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs60,000 for practising medicine on a fake medical degree.
The Federal Investigation Agency arrested Umer Hayat, a resident of Swat, from Auqaf Plaza in Peshawar on June 26, 2011 after receiving complaints from the public.
The magistrate was informed the accused was a former retired employee of Wapda and started practising medicine on a fake degree after he retired. Following this, the court sentenced him to prison.
