LAHORE: A court staffer was injured on Wednesday when a lawyer hit him with a chair.

Witnesses said Advocate Habibur Rehman arrived at the court at around 11.10 am and asked Muhammad Idrees, one of the family court staff at the LDA Plaza, to look for his case files.

Witnesses said Idrees asked Rehman to wait as there were similar requests from ahead of him.

They said Rehman got into an argument with Idrees, beat him and then threw a chair at his head.

Idrees’s colleagues stopped work in protest and met a senior civil judge who assured them that action would be taken against the lawyer.

Idrees was taken to Munshi Hospital where doctors said he needed six stitches for the wound. They said his fingers and back were also bruised.

His colleague Nabeel, said the staff had submitted a complaint against Rehman with the police on the judge’s advice. He said Idrees’s mobile phone and money had also been stolen in the commotion.

The police had not registered an FIR by Wednesday afternoon.

LBA General Secretary Kamran Bashir Mughal said the matter would be resolved by Thursday (today).
