Indo-Pak Express into Shanghai quarters

SHANGHAI: Pakistan tennis star Aisamul Haq Qureshi left no time to bounce back from his recent Commonwealth Games defeat and made his way forward to the Shanghai Masters doubles quarter-finals.

Qureshi and his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna from India claimed victory against South Africa’s Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman from Belgium 6-3, 7-5 in the pre-quarter finals. The 16th-seeded pair completed their task in 75 minutes without dropping a single break point and will now face third-seeds Leander Paes-Jurgen Melzer and Janko Tipsarevic-Thomaz Bellucci.

World number one Rafael Nadal featured in a shocking 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 defeat by 13th-seed Jurgen Meltzer in the third round. Meanwhile, second-seed Novak Djokovic and fourth-seed Andy Murray cruised through after beating Richard Gasquet 6-1, 6-1, and Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-4 respectively. Robin Soderling defeated Spanish David Ferrer 7-5, 6-4.
